Ceiling fan replaced

Finally got around to it, partially because I was waiting for the fan to arrive on a slow boat from China... Seriously, how did it take so long when the shipper was FedEx? Any how, fan installed, works fine, though I had to get a bit creative with how janky the previous install was. This one isn't perfect, but it should be fine, though I will admit to being worried about how old the wires were, I was kinda afraid they'd short to the box, but things seem good.

I must say, it's amazing how small a ceiling fan can be. This one isn't traditional by any means, and me and @Vik-Thor / Lirleni Hankeshe were a bit surprised at how small the fan is, but it does seem to move enough air. It's a half the size of the old traditional one, and a fraction of the weight.

Prolly get more of these in the future, though I'll spend more and get more interesting lights, maybe colour changing LEDs in the future, and larger or more interesting shaped lights, since you can do lots of neat things with LEDs.

Is it strange that I have a favorite flashlight?

Yeah, I do...

Image/Photo

That's a Black and Decker VPX flashlight, one of their many consumer power tool lines they've had and discarded over the years. I don't know why they can't settle on a standard, but frankly this one is great, look at the battery

Image/Photo

Nice little removable 7V (that's odd) battery, in this case an aftermarket battery. I got the light free at an old job, a miss sort, not something they want, so trash. One charger and two batteries from Amazon, and I've a flashlight that's served me for... Ten years? I don't even know at this point. True, that voltage would limit what kinds of tools you could do, prolly flashlights, power screw drivers and not sure what else.

Oh, did I mention the lanyard and belt clip?

Yep, those are covered. Need to point the light in a different direction than the flashlight?

It's got that covered too.

Working on the dining room ceiling fan

And I shouldn't be surprised by what I found, but I am. I kinda wonder what the kitchen looked like originally, since the other weirdly placed lamp had a similar sized hole in the ceiling. In this case, we had a ceiling fan attached to a home made support, with the electrical connection made outside of a box. Looks like they pulled out either a can light or a bathroom fan, I'm leaning towards the former, because that armored cable would've led to the actual light, and it explains the ground with a crimped ring on it and the metal ring around the hole.

So, off to Menards I go for a proper fan mount, and then I have to figure a way to crawl out to where the wiring is, removed the remains of the old electrical, and then fit in new proper parts.
