Future of my Asahi Linux set up

So, having some problems, nothing major, and they might be of my own doing, at least as far as things not working right.
As to what I can do with it, that's a bigger problem, and not #AsahiLinux 's fault. I do wonder why there's so little support for ARM on Linux. I mean there's not that many devices out there, but it is growing, heck I think Tuxedo is bringing one out.

Ideally any Linux system I use would be running only native software and nothing Electron, but that's rather unrealistic. Still, things are really bad over here, no DropBox at all, ditto for #sengiapp and #fedistar , Telegram and Signal are via Flatpaks and Snaps IIRC, while still more is thanks to Copr. I can switch to MacOS, but that's clunky and a bit of a pain to do.
I will be redoing things, using Gnome as the system as the other choice, KDE I don't like. Well, I don't like either, I tried Gnome back when 40 was new, and it felt more like Android or IOS than a desktop OS, while KDE I find too hard to figure things out, so many options, things in so many places. Mind you Wayland only makes things worse, many things handled by X11, have to be handled by the DE, and I've inflicted Cosmic on m'self of course. I suppose I should give Gnome a shot, and if'n I don't like that, Cosmic again on a system that is purer than this mess.

Failing that, not sure what I'm going to do. I will be installing Fedora on the Craptop to try the X64 version, after all Asahi is based on it, and I do like Asahi. After that... Dunno, maybe fix my old computer, or maybe by a tiny system, and run either Fedora or Mint:DE on it.

A few days with Cosmic and Mint/Cinnamon things

So, as I mentioned, on Sat we switched to Cosmic, and we're liking it. It does have some issues, but the ones not caused by me are minor, and somewhat amusing, cursor alignment is slightly off, wallpaper placement setting won't stick, and that's about it. I don't like the dynamic workspaces, so I hope that'll change in the future, whether it gets removed or becomes optional I don't care.

Outside of that, it's nicely polished. I do have to do a test to verify that the other two problems are caused by me, but that's minor. It does do one thing far better than Cinnamon's Wayland spin, and that's handle localization customization. Dunno if it's a bug or a feature, but apparently Wayland doesn't allow customizing your local settings, ie if'n you choose US-English, you get M/D/Y date format, 12 hour clock and so on, that can't be changed, instead it's handled at the DE level I guess, because KDE doesn't have that problem, nor does Cosmic, but Cinnamon does. A nuisance, and something that likely won't be fixed for a while as the Mint team has a lot on their plate.

If'n you're a software developer, I'm sure they'd like help with any of their projects, but the one that I think is the biggest importance to Linux as a whole is the GTK porting project. I'm not sure what the name is, but the long and the short is that they're trying to jettison Libwaita which is really tied into Gnome apps, and causes problems, mostly theming for all GTK distros that aren't Gnome, Mate, Cinnamon, Xfce, etc. Yeah, they're doing that, keeping up Linux Mint development, switching to Wayland, all at the same time, ambitious, perhaps too much so.

EDIT
Tested, clipboard works fine in Plasma(KDE) as does screenshot, which is Wayland like Cosmic, so this suggests a different and unexpected problem, I'd thought it was merely caused by two programs claiming the same keyboard shortcuts, but nope. This might mean Cosmic isn't usable enough yet.
EDIT 2
Just got the system updated, 210 updates, clipboard works, so does screen shot. Ugly border, and needs tooltips, but the screenshots will do.
EDIT 2A
Yay, WiFi works again, this was some kind of oops upstream, apparently the Broadcom drivers got broken about a week ago, but it finally works.

The Asahi after action report that wasn't

Don't worry, nothing bad, but my plans to call a week of using it, mostly for web surfing, but then that's most of my computer stuff, a good test kinda went haywire thanks to this thread.

My week went well running Asahi with the Cinnamon desktop. When I mentioned it on... I think it was the Reddit group for Asahi Linux, I was told of the terrible things that would happen running an X11 DE on a Wayland system. After a week of running it, I can report nothing happened, everything's been running smooth. Funny thing, I did do a short test of Cinnamon Wayland which is an alpha and ran into problems there, some odd behavior both of the main menu and the right click menu, tabs couldn't be dragged in Firefox, and I couldn't customize the date, time or keyboard to my taste, something that's apparently a Wayland issue.

So, here I was ready to do a re-install, since I'd started with the KDE flavor of Asahi, so I was thinking start over again with no desktop and then install Cinnamon. Then I saw a vid about the alpha release of Cosmic and was thinking maybe I can get it running and try that out... And then this morn I saw that thread, which came with an unofficial COPR to install Cosmic on Fedora.

Yeah, couldn't resist, so at the end of my morning surfing, I installed it, tweaked it just a touch, and that's it. Now I'm back on it, and it looks decent, there are some issues, and the janky set up I have going doesn't help, but it seems to work. Very bare bones at this point, but things are good enough, biggest problem has been wallpaper, the size setting doesn't seem to stay set. Still, that's the only problem, I can customize the time, date and keyboard no problem, Firefox tabs are draggable, everything seems to work so far. Not real big on the visible aqua window frame, but it's not terrible. Design seems nice and clean, and stable, though that last one will need to be tested.

So, I guess it's another week of testing, now with Cosmic. Oh the horror... Now if'n they'd fix the damn WiFi upstream.

@AsahiLinux is there any plan to create an COSMIC desktop variant of fedora Asahi remix?

Fedistar or Sengi

Anyone know if @Sengi or @fedistar can be built to work on Asahi Linux? For Fedistar, there are build instructions on their page, dunno if'n the finished product would work on Asahi, but I run into a problem with Git involving I think a key and me not having permission to add it. Plus some of the build instructions are unfamiliar, though I assume they're distro agnostic.

Asahi Linux Cinnamon anyone?

Did I mention that I kinda dislike KDE? I don't hate it, but... Well, gotta have my Cinnamon, so...

Image/Photo

Yep, I installed it, and it's running nicely. So far the only problem I'm having is that the system doesn't like to wake unless I tap the power button, but that's minor. Oh, and I can't install @Sengi , I suspect that's not an option, ditto for @fedistar , so I'm not sure what I'll do for Mastodon over there, maybe Sengi web, not sure. Telegram was a big challenge, but I found a Snap pack for that. I would've preferred a Flatpak or AppImage, but the person that fixed Telegram so it works only chose to do a Snap.

So, aside from setting up @Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox and getting everything logged in on the web, it's up, running, and prolly by Monday, maybe Sunday, I'll give it a week as my day to day system and see how it holds up. Oh, I do have to get the download sidebar installed, that's a bit tricky as the extension for Firefox no longer exists, so I either have to pull it from my profile here, or I might've already set aside a copy that I can side load into it.
