Last night, I watched the documentary about the travel and research of @dr. gianluca grimalda .
It is mainly a piece about slow travel but also shows a bit of his research on impacts of the #climatecrisis on the life of the people on the Solomon Islands that are vanishing due to the rising #sealevel
I certainly did relate. But I also had to realize that as a woman I could not have made such a journey alone.
The story is well told, I think, and you get to understand the motive of the researcher, who refused to fly though it was clear that this would cost him his permanent positition at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy . The institute fired him for refusing to be back at a specific date, which he could have only kept by taking the plane.
I believe that it is important to know that he had no teaching or other obligations that would have required his presence in Kiel at that time. Unfortunately, this is not explained in the movie.
The research of Dr. Grimalda is important and I hope that his work gives a voice to the people so many here do not seem to care about. He does care but does not get any money from the film. So if you think like me and have some money you do not need, you can support him via this crowd funding page: ko-fi.com/ggrimalda
If you cannot, please spread the word.
