Today I learned that #Python's os library has a Windows specific function called "os.startfile" that opens any file or folder with its default application. Specifying a folder path for example opens an explorer window pointed at that location.

Today I know more about #Python #pyenv shim's fall through to the system default than I did yesterday.

Stumbled upon a problem I didn't realize that I was having. Testing against an older version of an older version(3.11.2 vs 3.11.12) because it wasn't specified in the pyenv global. 🤦 Now I know.

So...I've got that going for me.

I've spent the day writing a (somewhat) minimalist static website generator in #Python. It's designed to be more of a generator framework, allowing you to customize and extend it and replace parts, but in turn it requires you to write some Python.

It's still super basic, but I'll extend it over the coming weeks. And I'm thinking about publishing a series of articles during and about its development, on a website generated by it, that slowly gains features.

Would anyone read that?

How is #precommit even a thing?

There's apparently _no_ security whatsoever. It just downloads random code from the internet and runs it on your machine.

And everyone with write access to the repo can just tell it to download _more_ code.

Compare this to direnv (direnv.net), which will ask you for permission every time someone changes its config.
