VLC updates are only available through Ubuntu Pro security updates which you have to sign up to.

Not just vlc. That whole "certain updates only for Pro" was what made me switch from U to Fedora. Very happy with that choice. Withholding updates is a definite no-go.

I agree switch away from Ubuntu for that craz, thing. And switch away from snaps, it's an Ubuntu ploy invention, too. The proper alternative that also works on Ubuntu for now would be to install the #flatpak from. #Flathub here, or really works cross-distros (unlike snap):

And surprise, you get updates for free there: flathub.org/apps/org.videolan.…

@Lioh Nur teilweise, vlc-forum[.]de wird z.B. nicht gefiltert, tarnt sich als deutschsprachiges VLC-Support-Forum und versucht die Leute auf die anderen Seiten der Firma zu lenken. Zu denen z.B auch office[.]org gehört, wo man dann OpenOffice + Spyware bekommt. @canadaduane

@stargazer ...und nach mindestens sieben Jahren ist vlc[.]de immer noch unter den beiden Topp-Suchergebnissen bei der deutschsprachigen Google-Websuche nach "vlc".

Also worth noting that being free is protective of VLC from lawsuits over DRM or assisting copyright infringements. As the revenue generated by those 'sales' of VLC is $0 and in many instances that limits the damages to $0.
