Maybe the f-droid version would be free if it wasn't compiled with a proprietary google SDK...

google claims their proprietary SDK definitely matches the sources, but when you spend hours compiling from the sources and fixing compile errors, existing software doesn't seem to compile against that SDK without extensive modifications?
